About Muhammad Babar, MBA

Author of Series 7 Mastery.

Muhammad Babar earned his MBA from Old Dominion University in 2009. Over the years since, he has helped numerous candidates prepare for and pass the Series 7 exam, working one on one with them on the topics that most often stand between a candidate and a passing score: options strategies, margin, municipal securities and the suitability scenarios that run through Function 3.

Series 7 Mastery grew out of that work. Every section follows the method he uses with students: first the concept in plain language, then a worked example solved one step at a time, then a question to try on your own.

He is the founder of MZB Academy.

How he teaches

Most candidates do not fail the Series 7 for lack of effort; they fail because Function 3 — 91 of the 125 questions — rewards applying rules to a customer's situation, and because a handful of calculations (option breakevens, margin calls, tax-equivalent yield, mutual fund pricing) show up again and again. His approach puts the time where the points are: the concept first, the arithmetic shown line by line, and then practice under exam conditions until the score is consistently above 80%.

How the book and this site are checked

  • Every calculation is re-computed. Each worked example and every numeric answer is recalculated independently, and approximate formulas (such as the yield-to-maturity shortcut) are checked against the exact result.
  • Rules are verified against current sources. Dollar limits, effective dates and rule numbers are checked against FINRA, MSRB, SEC and IRS publications; changes after publication are posted on the rule updates page.
  • Questions are original. All practice questions are written for this book and are not actual exam questions. Each has a full explanation of why the right answer is right.
  • Errors are corrected. If you find a mistake, report it; corrections are made in the next printing and noted online.
